Sex therapist Amie Harwick’s alleged murderer was ‘stalker,’ friend says – AOL

The ex-boyfriend who allegedly killed Hollywood sex therapist Amie Harwick had turned into an obsessed “stalker,” according to a new report.

Harwick, who was briefly engaged to comedian Drew Carey two years ago, plunged to her death from a third-floor balcony early Saturday in the Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles Police said.

Her ex Gareth Pursehouse, 41, a freelance photographer whom she dated before her relationship with Carey, was later arrested on murder charges, police said.

“He was a stalker. When they broke up, he didn’t take it well at all,” Harwick’s friend Rudy Torres told KABC. “He’d do stupid stuff and say stupid stuff. You’d tell him, ‘Move on dude, leave her alone.’ And he wouldn’t.”

Harwick, 38, filed for multiple restraining orders against Pursehouse, court records show.

One request filed in June 2011 was dismissed when she stopped pursuing it, but she filed again in March 2012, and a judge granted it after hearing evidence from both parties, according to court records.

It was around 1:16 a.m. Saturday that Los Angeles Police officers responded to a radio call of a “woman screaming” in the 2000 block of Mound Street in the Hollywood Hills, the LAPD said.

A roommate who met officers in the street said he jumped a wall to call for help because Harwick was being assaulted inside, police said.

When officers entered the property, they found “gravely injured” on the ground below a third-story balcony.

“She suffered significant injuries consistent with a fall. The victim was unresponsive,” police said in a statement.

Harwick was rushed to a hospital but died from her injuries, authorities said.

“The investigation revealed possible evidence of a struggle in the upstairs as well as forced entry to the residence,” police said. “Detectives learned that victim had recently expressed fear about a former boyfriend and had previously filed a restraining order against this person. The restraining order had expired and the victim had seen this former boyfriend two weeks ago.”

Pursehouse was arrested in the 8100 block of Cabora Drive in Playa Del Rey on Saturday afternoon and remained in custody Tuesday in Los Angeles in lieu of $2 million bail.

He was listed as being 6 feet 4 inches tall and 230 pounds, according to online jail records.

Harwick was briefly engaged to Carey, the host of “The Price is Right,” in 2018.

Carey, 61, posted a Twitter tribute on Monday that included a sweet image of the former couple sitting together by a giant animatronic polar bear.

“I hope you’re lucky enough to have someone in your life that loves as much as she did,” he wrote in the caption.

Harwick was a licensed marriage and family therapist who appeared on TV and was the author of “The New Sex Bible for Women.”
