Alex Trebek was remembered by Jeopardy! on the show’s first episode since his death.

The iconic game show host died this weekend aged 80 from pancreatic cancer, and had stuck by his vow to fans to continue appearing on the show till he could no longer.

On Monday’s episode, Mike Richards, executive producer of the show, opened the pre-recorded show with a message paying tribute to the host.

Clearly emotional, Richards stated: ‘Over the weekend, we lost our beloved host, Alex Trebek. This is an enormous loss for our staff and crew, for his family and for his millions of fans.

‘He loved this show everything it stood for. In fact, he taped his final episodes less than two weeks ago.

‘He will forever be an inspiration for his constant desire to learn, his kindness, and for his love of his family.’

‘We will air his final 35 episodes as they were shot,’ Richards confirmed. ‘That’s what he wanted.

‘On behalf of everyone here at Jeopardy! Thank you for everything, Alex. This is Jeopardy.’

Trebek was a beloved TV icon, having hosted Jeopardy! without fail since 1984.

As news of his death broke, A-list stars including William Shatner, Ryan Reynolds and Jamie-Lee Curtis all remembered him, paying their own different tributes of his affect on their life.

Alex had been keeping his fans updated on his treatment, acknowledging in March he had beaten the odds by surviving a year with stage four pancreatic cancer, and vowed to continue fighting despite a 7% chance of making it to 2021.

Trebek’s final episode of the show is now set to air on Christmas Day.
